Meet Our Physical Therapists

At the Office of Orthopaedic Medicine & Surgery, all of our providers have advanced physical therapy degrees and years of experience in orthopaedic and neuromuscular rehabilitation. Larona Barnes, DPT, CKTP

Sonya Gera, DPTLarona Barnes, DPT, CKTP, grew up in Canada and overseas. In 2000, she received her Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree with a concentration in psychology.  She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2008 from Marymount University. She is also certified as a Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP).

In May 2006, Larona was awarded the R. Charles Harker Internship by the American Physical Therapy Association. She enjoyed her summer months lobbying on behalf of the APTA for direct access, work-loan repayment program, and referral for profit legislation. Larona spent one of her 3-month practical rotations in Sydney, Australia training in sports injuries and lumbosacral pain.  After graduation, she began her career at an outpatient office in Washington DC, focusing on neuromuscular pain and rehabilitation.

Larona joined the staff of Orthopaedic Medicine & Surgery in 2010. She enjoys kickboxing, running, and traveling in her spare time.

  • Co-author of thesis exploring the effects of a sensorimotor environment on the reaching ability for a child with Rett Syndrome

Monica Barsuch, DPT

Monica Barsuch, DPTMonica Barsuch, DPT, grew up in central New York where she became interested in physical therapy from her own experiences through high school and college injuries and athletics. She attended Daemen College in Amherst, New York where she received her B.S. in Natural Science/Health Care Studies. She remained at Daemen where she graduated in 2009 with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

After graduation, Monica began working in a suburban hospital in New York with a focus on the inpatient and outpatient orthopedic population. She then moved to Northern Virginia in 2009 and worked at an outpatient facility before joining Orthopaedic Medicine & Surgery in July 2011. She has a strong passion for orthopedics and sports-related injuries.

Monica currently resides in Arlington, Virginia where she enjoys running, working out and spending time with and traveling with her friends.

Sonya Gera, DPT

Larona Barnes, DPT, CKTPSonya Gera, DPT, grew up in Southern California where she earned her B.S. in biology from UC San Diego in 2004. After graduation, Sonya moved to Washington DC, where she worked in research for one year. During this time she decided she wanted to make a difference in people’s lives by aiding in their recovery. She returned to California to complete her doctorate in physical therapy from Mt. Saint Mary’s College in 2009. She has since worked in a private clinic treating patients with varying diagnoses, from hip and knee replacements to TMJ disorders.

Sonya returned to Washington DC and began working with Orthopaedic Medicine & Surgery in July 2011. In her free time, Sonya enjoys going to the beach, traveling, swimming and working out at the gym.

Tom Boeke, PT

Tom Boeke, PTTom Boeke, PT, grew up in rural Ohio and received his BS degree in physical therapy in 1981 from The Ohio State University. He was certified as an athletic trainer in 1982 and board certified as a sports physical therapist by the American Physical Therapy Association in 1992. Tom began his career in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, working in an acute care hospital and outpatient orthopedic setting. He also taught full-time in a Physical Therapy Assistant program from 1986 to 1988.

In 1986, Tom became affiliated with the US Olympic Committee and in 1988, he was chosen as a member of the medical staff for the US Olympic Team during the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. Tom also moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1988 and started a private practice treating orthopedic and sports medicine injuries. Over a 12 year period, he expanded the Charlottesville practice to six outpatient clinics, in addition to providing home health rehab services in 15 counties. He sold the practice in 2001 and continued to manage the outpatient practice for five years until moving to DC in October 2006.

Tom worked as Clinic Director of Physiotherapy Associates’ Capitol Hill office until November 2008, when he joined Orthopaedic Medicine & Surgery. He enjoys running, swimming and cycling in his spare time.

Kerry Mimberg, MPT

Kerry Mimberg, MPTKerry Mimberg, MPT, is a native of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey and attended the University of St. Augustine where she received a master’s in physical therapy in 1999. She began her physical therapy career in New Jersey before relocating to the DC metro area to focus on orthopaedics at NovaCare and orthopaedic trauma at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Kerry joined Orthopedic Medicine and Surgery in 2006 where she focuses on sports medicine and orthopaedic rehabilitation. She is proficient in Spanish and enjoys traveling and golf.

Dana Logan, MSPT, GTC

Dana Logan, MSPT, GTCDana Logan, MSPT, GTC learned an early appreciation for physical therapy when recovering from various injuries through her gymnastics career. Her path as an athlete and her interest in the medical field led her to become a physical therapist. After graduating from physical therapy school, Dana moved to Washington, DC in 2001 and began working at a privately owned outpatient physical therapy clinic.  She remained there for seven years, eventually managing the three DC offices. Dana joined the team at Orthopedic Medicine and Surgery in 2008.

Dana is also actively involved in a continuing education company that holds seminars for practicing therapists. She has co-authored articles in the field of geriatrics and has developed several online classes. In addition, Dana started a physical therapy program at a local health club, focusing on injury prevention and wellness.

In her free time, Dana enjoys running, working out at the gym, cooking, and traveling.
